Developmental Order of Drinking-Related Problems in Men Hospitalized in General Hospital


Abstract
The order of selected drinking-related problems were surveyed in 382 hospitalized _hale patients in general hospital by the way of mean age at onset of problems. The mean ages at onset of selected drinking-related problems were as follow; first drinking at 21.2 years old-, largest amount of alcohol consumed at.27.9 years old, family¢¥s complaint of drinking at 29.0 years old. binge drinking at 29.7 years old, job problems. at .30.8 years old, blackout at 34.6 years old, controlled drinking at 34.7 years old, attempting abstinence at 38.3 years old, physical illnesses due. to drinking at 39:0. years old, and withdrawal symptoms at 43.1 years old. Drinking-related social, family, and occupational problems occurred earlier than drinking-related physical problems or withdrawal symptoms in this survey, as reported previously in western society. However the mean ages at onset of individual problems in this survey were substantially different form those studies done in western society.
